my friend wants to be the queen of hearts for halloween, and im gonna be the mad hatter. i ordered my costume, but we're making hers. we want something not like a queen of hearts from a deck of cards but a cute costume with a mini dress type thing. how could we go about making this without buying a pattern and sewing it etc.
see if you can find a suitable dress at a retail or thrift store, then make accessories. Cardboard and paint would make a crown, the cardboard core of a roll of paper towels would be a start for a scepter.

I was thinking maybe some sort of staff with a heart on it? or maybe a crown with the actual playing cards on it...any other ideas...
A heart necklace and earings to match! A crown deff but no playing cards, it will look weird. A staff would be cool. If you wanted to over exagerate you could put red face paint on your cheeks in a shape of a heart.

Get a shirt with hearts on it.
Get a crown and wear that.
Also get a cape to wear and you can make a heart on the back with fabric paint.

I have blonde hair and green eyes.
When my friend dressed up as the Queen of Hearts last year, she did her hair like this : http://www.wwbeautystore.com/images/ad_hair_updo.jpg. And she "modified" the tiara to house queen of hearts playing cards, she cut them in half and glued them in the space between the two parts of the tiara to where it kind of came up like a French Maid's hat... It's really hard to explain and I can't find my pictures but it was SUPER cute.
I would just wear some black high heels, maybe a mary jane style.
